| One of
the ways WindowsXP uses to facilitate a faster user experience, is a
system function called "Prefetch"
Prefetch keeps a shortcut to
recently used programs so that when you decide to use the program, it can
load faster. But you probably use about 80% of your programs only
once or twice each month or less. So the Prefetch library
fills up with redundant shortcuts and actually will cause you system to
load slower and slower.
So it is prudent to empty out that
library of shortcuts. It is very easy to do.
- Click on the START
button. (bottom left hand corner)
- Click on
Run
- Type in the word Prefetch
- A list of shortcuts will appear.
This could be 100 to 200 or more.
- Place you cursor somewhere on
the list and press Ctrl-A to highlight all the files
- Then right click on the
highlighted list and select delete
- Your prefetch library will be
empty and will start to save links from any programs you use from that
point onwards.
- Check it periodically ... say at
least once each month.
Hope that helps ...
